We try: Baccomatto Osteria Sydney.

As you know, we live it up in the nation’s capital (skip the jokes… we actually LOVE Canberra! Shock horror right?!). Though every now + then it’s nice to hit the big city smoke, get caught up in the crowds + be overwhelmed with the amount of healthy café options in Sydney… we really feel for the Sydney-siders who have to decide where to eat every weekend… must be tough 😛

Normally when we hit Sydney it’s for a certain event, but this trip was to break the routine + discover a side of Sydney we haven’t seen before.

We had done our research + had a list of cafes to check out, including The Oneness Café in Coogee. This place was made for us! They had cute inspirational messages all over the walls, yoga/wellness events + a menu that had us umming + ahhring for at least 30 minutes.

We both ended up having the rainbow salad with grilled chicken (to avoid any form of food envy… we get this pretty bad) + kombucha. There is nothing better than being excited when you get your plate + it’s a mega amount of salad, plus, we literally watched the chef prepare it (fresh is best!).  Our friend tried out the ‘build your own breakfast’ option with quinoa + haloumi pattie, beetroot hashbrown (AMAZING), mushies + spinach. We were a little bummed we didn’t leave room for a smoothie… but it’s the perfect excuse to head back soon!

Post ‘best lunch ever’ we headed down to the beach (apparently everyone else had the same idea!). We walked the coogee – bondi walk + were in awe of how amazing the Sydney beaches are… (don’t worry… we love the beach we are just usually at the south coast). One scenic walk + about 5 blisters later (remember we live in Canberra so we have to wear-in our thongs every year!) we were inspired to spend more time outdoors this summer. More on this #onesmallchange soon.

We stayed in surry hills, which was another new experience for us. This side of Sydney is ultra-cool with little cafes EVERYWHERE (YAY). We even ran into a Pressed Juices hole in the wall… this is where we got our paleo choc almond milk inspo from.

The Cambridge Hotel in surry hills was the perfect location + had us in easy walking distance to everywhere. Modest, comfy + most importantly… DELICIOUS. We ate at their restaurant Baccomatto Osteria. They mostly catered to our paleo dietary requests without a fuss (this is always a massive plus!). To make our experience even better, the waitress = lovely. We wanted to jump off our seats + give her a big hug! Just check out the delish factor of our entrée (we shared, of course): meatballs, olives, chicken skewers  + mains: lamb special (crazy tender) + beef fillet (drool).

Nothing beats a comfy bed, delicious food + friendly staff (they even mapped out nearby healthy cafes for us!) The only trouble we had in Sydney was the parking + driving… our friends say you get used to this… we’re not so sure!

Thank you Sydney for a super fun weekend. We came home inspired + full of new ideas, (like our choc almond milk + rainbow salad… seriously, you HAVE to try!) a passion for change + motivated to spend more time outdoors.

Have you experienced a lightbulb moment just like this?! #onesmallchange that made life better…? We would love to hear about it!

Always merrymaking,

Emma + Carla
