Introducing Personal Trainer: LUKE ARDERN.

We’re SO excited to welcome our new resident personal trainer to the merrymaker sisters…  Luke Ardern! Luke is super fit, lovely and full of fitness and health knowledge (in fact, he is one of our trainers and does a mighty fine job!). Luke will be sharing all kinds of fitness tips and workouts for a fitter and healthier you! But first, it’s time to get up close and personal with Luke and get to know him a little better!

Profession/passion: Personal trainer at LAPT and FuncFitness and Restaurant Manager

Favourite colour: Blue

Favourite food:  I’m very lucky to work with a team of fantastic chefs, it’s hard to beat any of their food! I can’t go past the merrymakers choc peppermint bites or my girlfriends grilled peach, proscitutto, pistachio and basil salad.

Favourite holiday destination: Huskisson, NSW

Favourite hobbies (a part from working out): Surfing, snowboarding, scuba diving, adventure races, dirt bike riding. I love the beach I always have.

How did you discover your way of living?
I was born at the coast and from a very young age loved water skiing with my Dad, surfing, playing soccer and riding my bike. I have never really been into computer games or being inside. I love the outdoors and fondly remember playing on the street with mates, kicking the footy, riding skateboards or jumping my BMX on the jumps we had made until it was dark. Mum would yell out that dinner was ready and we would go inside, that’s how I remember my childhood and it has never stopped! 

Tell us about your love for fitness and health…
I’ve always loved the outdoors, trying new things, exploring and pushing my limits. I can’t ever sit still. Nothing beats the feeling of training and working hard, I like earning my rest and feeling like I have accomplished something each and every day.

You inspire us to get stronger + fitter… who inspires you?  
To be honest, I have trained in alot of gyms, done all sorts of training and to this day my training partners and close friends Dave, Mic, CJ, Andy and Jesse (from FuncFitness) are my inspiration. I have never learnt so much in so little time, they push me hard and nothing beats doing a session with all of the boys from FUNC. Chad Mackay (11th fittest man in the world) is also a huge idol of mine, to see an Aussie compete with the best in CrossFit is really exciting! 

What does a day in the life of ‘Luke’ look like? We want to know what you do + what you eat!

  • Get up at 5am, have a shake with berries, banana, chia seeds, almond milk, protein, green tea, LSA mix
  • Run a LAPT boot camp session down at the lake or train clients at FuncFitness
  • 730am Func session with the boys
  • Postworkout shake
  • Eat second breakfast (usually eggs, bacon, spinach, mushrooms, avocado and tomato)
  • Bike ride or a run
  • Snack: banana, boiled egg, almonds
  • Eat lunch:  steak or chicken with vegies
  • Snack on nuts, celery, tomato and peanut butter!
  • Head off to my Restaurant Manager job at 3pm
  • Work until 1am and squeeze in some prepared dinner (usually meat and vegies)
  • Begin again at 5am!

How do you stay active + why does it work for you?
It has always just been a natural part of my lifestyle. It works because I have a passion for fitness, wellbeing and a healthy lifestyle. I love to eat healthy and I love exercising and sharing that passion with others. I am constantly pushing myself further and striving to be the fittest I can be. I like to think of being active as a way of life, not a chore.

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?
To save more money! But then again I wouldn’t have seen or done the amazing things I have done today!

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?

Share your mantra, what do you live by each day?

  1. Obsessed is a word the lazy use to describe the dedicated
  2. The light at the end of the tunnel isn’t an illusion; the tunnel is.
  3. The #1 reason why people give up so fast is because they tend to look at how far they still have to go, instead of how far they have come.
