218: do the hard thing, don’t shy away from the discomfort, you got grit

“Grit is the perseverance and passion to achieve long–term goals. Sometimes you will hear grit referred to as mental toughness.” Angela Duckworth, a researcher at the University of Pennsylvania.

Angela’s research shows that grit is a strong predictor of success and the ability to reach your goals.

What is grit?

We say grit is doing the hard thing, not running away from the discomfort. It’s looking at the long term goal not just short term and instant gratification.

Do you have grit? Tune in and decide for yourself.

Stuff we talked about…

  • Why going through something difficult and hard is actually the best thing. The positivity of the negativity.
  • To be successful the only thing you need is GRIT.
  • What are the characteristics of grit? Persistence, growth mindset, sticking to a goal, strong habits even though motivation might be lacking, it’s stamina.
  • Long term goals.
  • Failure is not a permanent situation. It’s a step. It’s part of the success.
