Why you need to try medicinal mushrooms | Fat bomb recipe with mushrooms

You’ve probably heard about medicinal mushrooms. We’ve tried them in the past but never really delved deeper into WHY we were taking them. And let us tell you! Now that we’ve done further research… medicinal mushrooms need to be part of our lives! And maybe yours?!

We’ve been testing out the new Teelixir Mushroom Latte varieties and we are 100% obsessed. If you’re new to the medicinal mushrooms these are a great place to start. Because they are certified organic, certified delicious and you can add them to pretty much any healthy dessert or smoothie to get extra goodness to each and every day!

So let’s get straight to it, in no particular order… these are the medicinal Mushroom Lattes we are LOVING…

Mushroom Cacao Latte starring Reishi and Rose

Ok, we said no particular order but this flavour combo is definitely our favourite. We’ve been adding it to our morning smoothie bowl, the cacao and rose it a great flavour addition!

We’ve also slowly warmed a couple of scoops of Mushroom Cacao Latte with coconut milk on the stove and it’s the perfect way to end the evening. BUT our favourite way to use it is in our Mushroom Fat Bomb recipe (see below!).

Reishi mushrooms are one of the most studied medicinal mushrooms. They’re known for their de-stressing and calming benefits, they boost immunity, promote longevity and healthy aging.

FUN FACT: Reishi is the ultimate anti-stress herb. It has a long history of use in Ancient China by Taoist monks and sages for cultivating spiritual energy, reducing stress, calming the mind, and transforming negative energy in the body. It is known as the mushroom of ‘spiritual potency.’

Mushroom Beet Latte starring Chaga and Raw Cacao

This delish blend uses wild Siberian Chaga mushroom extract… known to boost immunity, support digestion and skin health. The beetroot gives it an earthy taste and it’s super dooper energising… perfect addition to your morning! We’ve also added it to our smoothie bowl and it gets our tick of approval.

Beetroot is also packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Even though we live a healthy lifestyle and try get as many veggies in as possible we LOVE that this Teelixir latte sneaks in extra vegetables to our days.

Mushroom Matcha Latte starring Lions Mane and Peppermint

We’d already heard of Chaga mushrooms and Reishi but we’ve never ever heard of this Lions Mane variety (insert confused emoji).

But wow, it’s super interesting! It’s known to boost brain power, improve memory, focus and mood. And because it’s blended with matcha tea it works even better as the high-grade tea contains amino acid L-Theanine which helps the body deal with stress. Yes, we reckon we could all do with this!

Throw in peppermint for nutrient absorption, alertness and digestion.

If you’re a fan of green smoothies, add this to your next one! Plus, it’s also the perfect coffee replacement if you’re trying to decrease your coffee. 

Mushroom Turmeric Latte starring Cordyceps and Ginger

Seriously move over boring turmeric latte and welcome MUSHROOM turmeric latte! With all the added health benefits, it’s an easy swap. 

Cordyceps mushrooms are known to increase energy, mental performance, recover faster and boost libido (ummmm sign us all up!). They’re also traditionally used in Asia to boost happiness. Merry mushrooms!

Add premium turmeric root to calm your system, lower inflammation and boost antioxidants. PLUS cinnamon, ginger and black pepper to increase nutrient absorption (turmeric is best consumed with black pepper), improve digestion and make extra yum.

We seriously reckon just add this to everything! Sweet, savoury, whatever floats your boat!

So now let’s get to our Mushroom Fat Bomb recipe. We’ve tried this recipe with both the Mushroom Beet Latte and Mushroom Cacao Latte, both equally as delish. Just remember the beetroot latte is super energising, so don’t have that one too close to bedtime.

We’ve been loving these fat bomb recipes, not only are they extremely easy to make, they’re super filling and satisfying (thanks to high fat). They make the perfect small portion controlled treat or ultimate work snack. Make a big batch on the weekend and store in your freezer for the week. 

And when you add the Teelixir Mushroom Lattes they’re packed with even more goodness!

Medicinal mushroom fat bombs

STUFF YOU NEED

FOR THE FAT BOMB BALLS

  • 11/2 cups shredded coconut
  • 1 cup cashews
  • 1 tbs coconut oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp monk fruit sweetener or rice malt/other sweetener
  • 1/4 cup sugar free choc chips (optional)

FOR THE CHOC COATING

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup Teelixir Mushroom Cacao Latte
  • 2 tsp monk fruit sweetener or rice malt/other sweetener
  • 1 tsp vanilla

NOW WHAT

  • Start with the balls! Place all the ball ingredients, except the choc chips in a blender and whiz until a butter forms.
  • Place the mix into a bowl, stir through the choc chips. 
  • Roll mixture into small balls, place on a tray with baking paper in a single layer and place in the freezer for 5 minutes. Meanwhile! Make the chocolate.
  • Rinse your blender, add all the chocolate ingredients and blend on slow speed and increase slowly until you get the most magical super healing liquid chocolate. Pour choccy mix into a bowl.
  • Grab your balls, using a spoon pick up each individual ball then dip the ball into the chocolate. Place ball back on the same tray.
  • Once all fat bomb balls are dipped into chocolate place back into the freezer for 5 minutes. SO EASY!
  • Eat a fat bomb! Then, transfer all remaining fat bombs into a container and store in the freezer (the chocolate will melt if left out!).
