243: 12 life changing books to help you feel motivated

During this week’s episode, we chat about 12 of our favourite books that do not only entertain but create motivation and inspiration to get you working towards your goals.

Stuff we talk about…

  • 12 books that can motivate you to move forward towards your goals in life.
  • How the authors use their own stories of struggles and success to motivate their readers.
  • The importance of what you already have.
  • How these books will help you connect to your self and your true desires.

OH, we really loved this episode. We could talk about our favorite motivational books all day but here’s our top 12 (in no particular order).

1. Big Magic by Liz Gilbert

We love how Liz talks about finding and following your passions, bliss and things that light you up. This book also eliminates the pressure of making the thing that you love into a full-time gig in order to be successful and create joy. This book gives you permission to follow your passion and intuition.

2. The Surrender Experiment by Michael Singer

This amazing book talks about the power of surrendering to life itself and to the rhythm and energy of the world, and how it can help you make decisions and create better outcomes. It also helps us understand that we can’t control everything in life, so letting go and surrendering to the flow of life is a fun and beautiful way to live.

3. The Motivation Manifesto by Brendon Burchard

If you love browsing through Instagram with inspirational quotes, then this book is definitely for you. If you read this, you’re like reading snippets of inspiration that are enough to get you fired up for the day and inspired for life. One of the best lessons shared by this book is to start taking action and motivation will come.

4. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

It’s a beautiful story book about the meaning of life.  The treasure that you’ve been looking for has always been within you, and it’s really about how you go about finding it, uncovering it and recovering it. You have a purpose and you can make a difference no matter how big or small it is.

5. Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse

This book is about the story of a young man who started his adventure away from his family and went through stages of his life, from being poor to rich and coming out of that again. It also shows how people can get sucked into materialism, sex, and pleasure as a measure to life’s fulfillment.

6. The War of Art by Steven Pressfield

This is a good book if you want to start something as it talks about how resistance is always going to be around but you have to push through. This helps you realize that yourself is your own resistance and you need to get out of your own way.

7. The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod

Hal Elrod has been through a lot of struggles in life and how he overcame them was really inspiring. Doing even just one miracle morning to start your day can really make a difference.

8. Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes

It’s pretty much what we call the Bible for women where you’ll be able to understand yourself a little bit more. This book is amazing!

9. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

It shifted our mindset around money and helped us realize that we can achieve anything that we put our mind into. The way that we think and talk about something creates our beliefs around it which then creates our reality. We’ve even done a whole episode about it. Please check it out HERE.

10. Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl

This story of the Holocaust survivor made me cry and realize that none of the material things is important. It’s really about finding your purpose even in the hardest moment. You will find strength even in times of hardship when you know your purpose.

11. The Bhagavad Gita by Stephen Mitchell

It’s a yoga book that talks about the art of detachment and surrender. It’s about opposing conversation going on in your head and whichever you listen to is one that comes to life. Just like the idea of a white and dark wolf. Which one are you going to feed? It’s listening to your truth that you are amazing no matter what situation you’re in right now.

12. The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks

This book is about fear and working in your zone of genius. It’s about you taking that big leap out of your small fish bowl to a larger one. Believe in yourself and do the things that you never thought you can. Focus on what you’re really good at, your zone of genius, let everything else go and still get the same level of success.

SO, get out of your own way. Follow the flow. Find your purpose. Create joy. Find the joy. Tap into your natural rhythm. Follow your heart.
