I could never teach Yoga, I can’t touch my toes, do a handstand or do the splits

If you have the idea that you can’t teach Yoga because you can’t do that crazy upside-down, pretzel-looking pose, touch your toes or do the splits… we’re here to tell you… you’re simply wrong.

Keep reading to find out why.

For a time, in both our lives, we were in the pursuit of the perfect body.

We clung to the idea that reaching that number on the scales, would be the key to feeling worthy and beautiful… if only we could just lose those kilos.

There was another time when Carla was in pursuit of the perfect handstand.

She thought… once I can hold a handstand perfectly, then I can teach Yoga.

Then we discovered the lesson of Self-acceptance.

We realised that the pursuit of the ‘perfect body’ would be a forever one. Because last time we checked the ideal body regularly changes in the eyes of society. Perfection, as it turned out, was an elusive mirage and a big distraction.

This old belief had been stopping us in many aspects of our lives. It consumed our thoughts so we had less time for EVERYTHING.

Carla realised that the handstands and pretzel Yoga poses, were about 00.000001% of what Yoga truly was.

This old belief would have stopped her from teaching Yoga. It would have stopped the creation of our MerryBody App, where we’ve helped thousands of people around the world practise Yoga and Pilates!

Do you see where we are going with this?

Self-acceptance is a life changing practice that will open up infinite possibilities for you.

It helps you quieten the noise of the world. It helps you quieten the self-doubting mind, the voice that says “you are not good enough”.

Self-acceptance allows you to embrace who you are, right here, right now, with all your quirks, imperfections and beautiful uniqueness.

It helps you let go of the need for external validation and find comfort in your own skin.

It helps you realise that just because you can not handstand or do that crazy pose, it doesn’t mean you can not teach!

It’s a beautiful truth that not every teacher is a fit for every student, and vice versa.

So perhaps you won’t attract that super Yogi who is looking for an intense Ashtanga practice with heaps of handstands.

Maybe you’ll attract those who need to carve out an hour of relaxation in their busy stressful week.

Perhaps you’ll attract the student who needs to work on their posture because they sit too much at work.

Or maybe you’ll teach a bunch of new Mums who are getting back into exercise.

Yoga is about the rhythm of your breath, the stillness of your mind, and the way you connect with the world around you. It’s a transformative journey that goes beyond the fancy poses. The most amazing thing? The impacts ripple out to every aspect of your life off the mat.

Yoga is not just a physical activity— it’s a pathway to self-discovery and a perfect way to practise self-acceptance.

Yoga will not only strengthen your body but also nourish your mind.

This is why we are continually saying, the physical practice (the Asana, the flows and movements within Yoga) is just a tiny drop in the ocean of Yoga.

With our MerryBody Yoga Teacher Training, we dive deep into the physical practice of Yoga, but with even more enthusiasm… we dive DEEP into everything else.

We run our 200 hour course once a year. If you want to be the first to know about the next cohort dates and early bird specials, be sure to hop on our waitlist.

Always merrymaking,
Emma + Carla
