One of the keys to Self-Confidence is awareness. And then the ability to know where you are holding yourself back.

The realisation of the negative and untrue narrative in your head.

You know the voice, the one that says things like…

Don’t sign up to that salsa class, you’ll make a fool of yourself…

No one will want to hear what you have to say, don’t write that book or blog…

Some people are just born with talent… I am not…

It’s too late and there is no point to start NOW. I am too old…

They are all doing so well, not me, oh well. I’ll just keep doing what I am doing…

I’m too fat to do that…

….

Do any of these sound familiar?

We know this voice well.

And it was the author, Louise Hay who made us well aware of it.

We realised we’d both spent most of our teenage years and early 20s shaming and putting ourselves down.

Not out loud… inside our minds.

Not every now and then… constantly!

And with the awareness… first came the shock, the annoyance of the wasted time, the guilt, the shame…

However then came the AHA! and the ability to make a change.

“Remember, you have been criticising yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” Louise Hay.

The change didn’t happen overnight.

It took practise… it took time.

It took post-it note reminders on the mirror.

It took daily discussions with each other (many of these are on the Get Merry Podcast).

It involved reading more, learning from experts like Brene Brown and Byron Katie.

It took us down an amazing path. An adventure inwards.

It allowed us to deeply believe in ourselves and think… YES, it is all possible!

It led us to Yoga and Pilates.

We then combined Yoga and Pilates with this Self-Approving and Self-Accepting mindset (and this was the real magic).

You see our Yoga and Pilates became our daily practice to express and live with more Self-Acceptance.

The movement as a daily action became an affirmation, an intention setting practice.

A method to quieten down the untrue voice in the mind and instead, raise the voice of Self-Belief and Self-Confidence.

 

We couldn’t keep all this to ourselves, and so, it led us to create MerryBody Online Studio.
