If you follow us on social media, you might’ve noticed… I am now a Romantasy reader. I can maybe thank Damiano for this era… he’s got me watching all the fantasy TV series and, well, it has definitely rubbed off. He suggested me to read Lord of the Rings, and instead, I picked up Fourth Wing. A choice I do not regret.
And yes, I know I’m very late to the Fourth Wing party… but wow. I loved it. Not just the romance (although, hello Xaden and Violet), but the politics, world-building, metaphors, and THE DRAGONS.
Mostly, I’m just so grateful to be reading amazing can’t-put-down books. I’m someone who can accidentally scroll way too long on social media (you too?)… but when I’m in a good book? The scrolling disappears.
Plus, reading + Yin Yoga = perfection. Nothing beats a long swan/pigeon pose with a great story.
And something I’ve realised as I jump between historical fiction and Romantasy worlds is this: these characters teach me things.
Every single one of them is on their own epic journey… full of courage, heartbreak, resilience, hope and it reminds me that our own stories matter too.
Not because they’re dramatic or magical or dragon-filled… but because we are the ones living them. Their quests inspire me to honour my own life… call it adventure, quest, journey… whatever you want to call it. To see my everyday choices, challenges and chapters as part of something meaningful.
So here’s the little list of what I’ve read recently, and what I’m currently loving. I’ll add the links so you can check them out too. I’ve given Amazon links, for ease factor, but remember buy local and borrow from your library!
The Books I’ve Been Devouring Lately
In no particular order… each of these books had that couldn’t-put-it-down energy.
The Tea Rose Series — Jennifer Donnelly
A beautifully rich historical saga. Thank you to Kirsten from our MB Yoga Teacher Training for sending me the first book, I was hooked instantly! Check it out here.
The Seven Sisters — Lucinda Riley
Sweeping, emotional, mysterious… the storytelling is just amazing. Loved all the different stories over time, countries and cultures. There are 8 books!
My Brilliant Friend (The Neapolitan Novels) — Elena Ferrante
Raw, real, emotional. A deep dive into friendship, identity, girlhood and womanhood and life in Naples after World War 2. This series was so good, the TV series is equally as amazing.
The Empress of Rome Saga — Kate Quinn
Power, politics, ancient Rome. If you love historical fiction with grit, this is your series. Especially fun if you travel to Rome a lot! Check it out here.
A Court of Thorns and Roses — Sarah J. Maas
My first step into fantasy-romance. I loved the magic, the slow burn love and relationships, the entire world building. Find the here set here!
Fourth Wing — Rebecca Yarros
The series that hooked me fully into Romantasy. Dragons, tension, twists… I read all 3 in less than 2 weeks! Waiting impatiently for Book 4. Although I am new to the Romantasy genre, I think this series is the best Romantasy book series. Check them out.
The Crescent City Series — Sarah J. Maas (my current read!)
I’m deep in this world right now, angels, demons, mystery, romance, magic… it’s everything. Was a little hard to get into (all the reviews say this also) but once I pushed past the first chapters… I am in. Find all 3 here!
Each one of those books has taught me something and brought a little magic into my life. If you’re waiting for more magic in life… pick up a book. If you need book recommendations, or want to send me yours, I’d love that!
And if you needed a little reminder to put the phone down tonight and pick up your book… here it is.
Always merrymaking,
Emma
