Get Inspired With Dave Nixon From Functional Fitness Australia.

It’s time to get inspired with Dave Nixon, Founder, Coaching Director of Func Fitness Australia and Movement and Mindset writer!

About Dave Nixon…

I was 16 and well over my head. I was literally training people that were 3 times my age. Fast forward and I’ve now been in the industry for 10 years and I have had the opportunity to work with, train and now, coach approximately 4000 people.

From the age of 19 I started questioning everything I had been told in the industry. This lead my curious brain to stop and look at a gym for what it was. A place humans go to do robotic tedious movements that have zero to minimal correlation to the tasks we do or how we move outside of it. With headphones on, looking at ourselves. Oh, and chowing down on some powders post workout. This became the norm. I soon learned the difference between the fitness industry and the health industry. I learned the difference between normal and common. We were becoming common people. We were becoming zombies. This isn’t to say that I do not use supplements at all, because I do. I just understand their place better than I did many years ago. This all lead me to found Functional Fitness Australia in 2011. With no mirrors, treadmills or machines we give you the opportunity to learn how to become more human in a world strongly urging us to be more robotic.

With a clear vision of increasing the nation’s health IQ,  I set out on educating people to understand the importance of functional movement patterns and also why and how we self-sabotage our own success and health.

I continually aim to deliver an in-depth yet simple approach to understanding your body’s real potential. And it starts with how you think.

It’s not about gyms, it’s not even about diets. People were healthier before both of these were around and ‘in fashion’. It’s about training your mentality and physiology to be as human as possible in a world forcing us to become more and more robotic.

There are two quotes that remind me to think different and be myself.

“The light at the end of the tunnel isn’t an illusion, the tunnel is.”

“When you are truly genuine, there will invariably be people who do not accept you. And in that case, you must be your own badass self, without apology.” – Katie Goodman

Share your favourite foodie moment…

Favourite foodie moment? Geez. Probably just about any time I get to sit down to eat really. I would have to say the food in Thailand. The produce is genuinely so fresh and made from scratch. You have to go out of the smoke though and into the smaller towns to really get the full experience. Gorgeous food!

Share your signature trait, the weird and the wonderful are welcome…

Definitely a high 5. It’s like an ass slap for your hand.

Share your favourite most delish recipe with all of us…

The one that comes to mind the most is the beef cheek I was so fortunate to try just recently with the girls themselves. It’s so good you would have to take your shoes off to eat it, just so you can wiggle your toes!

Thanks to Dave for sharing your story and for making us giggle! We’re super excited to announce that Dave will be featured monthly right here on the Merrymaker Hub, sharing his wisdom, words and inspiration with us all! You can also grab the paleo slow cooked beef cheek recipe we made for Dave here!
