If you follow us on Snapchat (if you don’t, find us at themmsisters or here) you’ll see we love our smoothies.
Our favourite smoothie would have to be this Super Merry Smoothie. It seriously wins. It has a Bulletproof, health hacking feel because of all the good stuff we chuck into our blender!
It has a lot of ingredients. And YES they are all super good for you. And we wanna tell you about all the good stuff so you too can hack your morning smoothie! Ready?
Cacao
Super high in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, stress reliever, mood enhancer, high in magnesium and so much more.
Chia seeds
Source of protein, fibre, omega 3s. Great for skin, digestion and metabolism health.
Gelatin
If you’re going to add just one of these ingredients, pick this one! It’s so good for you! It supports skin health, nail health, hair health, gut health! Great for your joints and even arthritis. If you can’t be bothered to make bone broth all year (*raise hands) this is the perfect replacement. There are many varieties to choose from, at the moment we go for the Aussie made variety, Gelpro.
Maca
2 words: hormone health. You might know that we both completely stuffed up our hormones in a big way. We lost weight, over exercised and both our period cycles stopped for 2 years (read more here). Maca helps to regulate hormones, helps with menopause symptoms, gives you energy, improves fertility and even helps with bone density (very important if your period is MIA, as no period = bad for bones!).
Matcha
It’s powdered green tea and is rich in vitamins and antioxidants. With caffeine for a bit of a pep but doesn’t give the massive low like coffee.
MCT oil
Healthy fats! From Dave Asprey and the Bulletprooth diet: MCT (medium-chain triglycerides) are missing from typical diets. They’re saturated fats but easier to digest than the more common LCTs (long-chain triglycerides). Your body sends them straight to the liver, they raise your metabolism and then get burned as fuel instead of being stored as fat. Sounds good, right!?
Turmeric
Usually found in curries it’s the perfect addition to your morning healthy smoothie too! It’s a natural anti-inflammatory, cancer fighter, filled with vitamins, antioxidants and good stuff! Also great for digestion and even weight loss!
Now remember, you don’t need to add all the extra good stuff… start with just 1 if you like!
We’d also love to know, do you add any other amazing ingredients to your morning smoothies? Tell us your favourite smoothie recipe/ingredients in the comments below!
Always merrymaking,
Emma + Carla
- 2 cups coconut milk (carton)
- 1 cup ice
- 2 tbs. MCT oil
- 2 tbs. gelatin (leave out for vegan option)
- 2 tbs. raw cacao powder
- 2 tbs. nut butter
- 1 tbs. chia seeds
- 1 tsp. maca powder
- 1 tsp. 100% vanila extract
- 1/2 tsp. turmeric
- 1/2 tsp. matcha powder
- Chuck all the ingredients in a blender and whiz it up till nice and smooth!
- Drink with cute straw!
- You could leave the nut butter out of the blender, whiz everything else up and dollop on top! Also if you're a peanut butter fan you could swap nut butter for peanut butter!
- You can also add a green supplement to the mix, we simply have ours in water beforehand.

Could you use coconut oil, instead of MCT oil??
Author
You can! 🙂
Hi! Do you bloom the gelatine first? Does it go lumpy at all? Thanks
Author
We would bloom it when making lollies and pana cotta etc but we don’t really worry for the smoothie! Just pop it all in a whiz. Sometimes it goes a little lumpy but we aren’t all that fussed. If you have time, go for it! : ) 🙂 So yummy!
I only have the gelatin that sets (I use it to make gummies). Can I put that one in?
Thanks

You can! 🙂
What exact Gelpro product do you use? 🙂
Do you use coconut milk/water, almond milk or something else?
Author
Hey Kathy! You can use any of those 🙂 🙂 We prefer coconut milk 🙂 YUM!
Hi! Which brand coconut milk do you use? I’d love to find a carton that doesn’t have rice milk in it 🙂
Thanks!
Author
We actually find the best one dies include a little rice. Our preference right now is the Coco quench brand 🙂
Well I’m definitely going to try your smoothies. Love smoothies for breakfast
When I make mine I add a teaspoon of diatomaceous earth (silica). Keeps the colon clean and keeps us very regular!
Author
Yes great idea! We used to take that! Will have to get back into it!
What brand 100% vanilla extract do you use? The last one I got was organic but had very little vanilla taste and more of alcohol.
OMG this is definitely a keeper! I used homemade coconut milk and had just made ground cinnamon in my thermie before I made this ? I’ve also just bought some organic Byron Bay decaf so will add a cold shot to this next time and try it out on hubby 🙂
Emma and Carla – I used hulled tahini ilo nut butter – will the nuts give it better protein?
Also is MCT oil superior to coconut oil and are all MCT’s the same or is there a better blend/brand to look out for?
Thanks again – this was a life saver in an utterly busy day today ?

Hey Sonia! Our fave is Heilala vanilla or Queens organic 🙂
Author
Oooo sounds amazing Lisa 🙂 hulled is fine but we have read the unhulled has more calcium 🙂 so that’s why we choose it! MCT oil is more concentrated and contains different proportions of MCTs. Here’s post from Bullet proof 🙂 https://blog.bulletproof.com/what-is-mct-oil-vs-coconut-oil/
Great smoothie, gives me lots of energy! Any suggestions on how to make it taste yummier?
Author
Hey Louise! You don’t think it tastes yum?! Hehe! Hmm, add some of your fave berries, some nut butter, rice malt syrup for sweetness?! 🙂 YUM!
