How to Make the Most of Your Online Yoga Teacher Training Experience

Step 1: Choose the Right Online Yoga Program

The first step is to choose the right Online Yoga Teacher Training Program that suits your needs. Research the program and read reviews from other students, if it’s fairly new don’t worry too much. Our MerryBody Teacher Training is new this year in 2023 but it means we are extremely determined to deliver the best online learning experience for you. Look for a program that offers a comprehensive and Yoga Alliance Approved curriculum (this is VERY important), experienced instructors, and flexible scheduling. If in doubt, email the course creators, if they are willing to answer your questions and give you time (via email or a phone call) this is a great way to get a feel for the course.

Step 2: Create a Dedicated Space

Create a dedicated space in your home for your Yoga practice and training. Try to create a quiet and peaceful space where you can focus on your practice without any distractions. Make sure you have enough room for your Yoga mat and be sure to have a comfortable workspace for theory-based work. Now, the keyword is TRY, we know sometimes life gets busy and a little crazy. If your space is tiny or filled with tiny humans and their toys and questions or shared with another online worker/gamer/learner, do not stress! Let this be part of your practice.

Step 3: Set a Schedule

Depending on the course you choose to do and how it is run, it’s wise to set a regular schedule for your Yoga Teacher Training. This will help you stay on track and make progress toward your certification. Determine the best time of day and week for you to practise and study, and make it a part of your routine.

Our 200 Hour Teacher Training Course is run over 16 weeks, it has live and recorded elements. However, the live sessions will be added to the learning platform and students have up to 12 months to complete the training. So really, it’s entirely flexible, you could try and complete the course within the 16 weeks, or you could decide to take the full 12 months. Whatever works with your life and your schedule, this is the best thing about online learning, it’s flexible!!

Step 4: Stay Focused and Motivated

Try to stay focused and motivated throughout your training. Set achievable goals for yourself and celebrate your progress. Surround yourself with supportive friends and family who encourage you to keep going. If you ever feel discouraged, remind yourself of your passion for Yoga and the positive impact it can have on others.

Step 5: Engage with Your Instructors and Peers

Engage with your instructors and other students throughout your training. Participate in group discussions, ask questions, and seek feedback. Join online forums or Facebook groups where you can connect with other students and share your experiences. Building relationships with your instructors and peers will help you grow as a Yoga Teacher and make the most of your online training.

Step 6: Practise, Practise, Practise

Practise your Yoga Poses and teaching skills regularly. The more you practise, the more confident you’ll become as a teacher. Use online resources to find new sequences and inspiration for your practice. Record yourself teaching and review your videos to identify areas where you can improve. Run some casual classes at home with friends and family, ask for their feedback. Remember, you’re a new teacher and you will only get better and better with each class you teach! Also, don’t forget, it’s entirely ok if you decide teaching is not for you, Yoga Teacher Training courses are a fantastic self-development tool.

Step 7: Stay Open-Minded and Continuously Learn

Stay open-minded and continue learning throughout your training and after. Attend webinars, workshops, and Yoga retreats to deepen your knowledge and skills. Read books and articles on Yoga philosophy, anatomy, and teaching techniques. A great Yoga Teacher is a lifelong student, so never stop learning. Oh also, have fun doing it!
